Funerals & Memorial Ceremonies...

This is a time we most dread in our lives, the experience of grief and loss that we all have to cope with, whatever our beliefs are.

A humanist funeral offers a very personal way of saying goodbye to those of us who live without religion. Its focus is on the life lived and the personal legacy left behind. Each service is as unique as the individual as it tells their life story. The ceremony centres on achievements to celebrate, it acknowledges challenges faced and it recognises the influence on others. It is dignified, respectful and inclusive.

Humanist funerals are accepting of everyone,  and can include moments of quiet reflection or contemplation for those who wish this, with a recognition given to cultural traditions that are often steeped in history. These non-religious services mark the sadness of losing a loved one but they are balanced with telling the story of the life that was lived. While humanist ceremonies are non-religious, some do include religious components so as to offer peace to those grieving, who choose to live their life with a religion.

Humanism is about taking care of each other, respecting our differences but recognising our commonalities, such as taking care of everything in the world we live in, the environment, the animals and each other.

Losing a loved one is so very difficult, but arranging their funeral ceremony should not be. If  you wish to find out more about humanist funerals and memorials, wish to contact me to discuss one or wish to write your own, you can contact me directly here or go to the Humanist Society Scotland website to find out more. www.humanism.scot
